Patrick Markus, vice president and general manager at Hughes, leads the team responsible for delivering Hughes commercial communications technologies (3GPP NTN/D2D, 5G ORAN, SATCOM, and managed network services) to the defense, intelligence, and federal/civilian sectors.
With more than 25 years of government contracting, technical, and executive management experience, Patrick has garnered extensive DoD and Intelligence Community industry knowledge while supporting mission success of the National Reconnaissance Office, US Air Force, Army, and Navy, as well as various three-letter agencies and international partners.
He spent 17 years at Northrop Grumman, entering as an engineer, then progressing through various leadership roles in business development, strategy, project, and portfolio management with profit and loss responsibilities. During his tenure, Patrick supported customers across the IC and defined and executed strategies that expanded his work across many DoD service branches, research agencies, and international partners.
Following his time at Northrop Grumman, Patrick transitioned to providing leadership at several small/mid-sized companies in the DoD, IC, and federal/civilian spaces. Most recently he served as Corporate Executive Vice President and Sector President at the defense technology company, BlueHalo. There he built and oversaw the cyber and intelligence portfolio to provide products and services in support of national security. These offerings included capabilities in government and commercial satellite-based communications, sensing and data processing, and offensive/defensive cyber operations.
Patrick earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Applied Mathematics and Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University and a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is also a PMI certified Project Management Professional and completed executive education in Strategy Development at the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business.
